💪+😷 = ❌Willpower + Pandemic = DISASTER

The reason willpower fails us is because you are not in your natural state of being.

There's been so much conversation about whether or not we should be productive while we are quarantining. We've all seen the sourdough breads, the online workouts, the homeschooling schedules... the list goes on an on. We want to be productive because we want this time to have meaning. We want to create significance with our actions so we don't feel like we're doing "nothing".

There's nothing inherently wrong with productivity nor passivity. Both are totally acceptable in a time where our biggest task is to simply survive and get through the day. But... pushing ourselves to do things with willpower is backwards and will run us into a ditch.

The truth is, a mindset that includes willpower, motivation, and discipline is the trifecta of disaster - ESPECIALLY NOW. These three thoughts set up you up for one thing: FAILURE.

Here's where we all get confused. Doing something while ONLY relying on "willpower" really just means we are bullying ourselves into action. If we feel we are in alignment with what we're doing, we have more pleasure and more lasting results. While motivation may lead to some movement, willpower will ditch us like that bitchy friend who met a guy at the bar and left us drinking an Aperol Spritz at the bar alone.

Relying ONLY on willpower means...

1. You can't trust yourself

2. You're not listening to yourself

3. You are disconnecting with yourself

The reason willpower fails us is because you are not in your natural state of being. Your natural state of being is alignment. If you stopped relying on willpower, you wouldn't be disconnected from your natural state of being.

It's not our fault that we rely on willpower. I've done it too! Our society teaches us that we can't trust ourselves and willpower is our ticket to freedom. The truth? You absolutely can trust yourself. You can trust you thoughts and your desires. Trusting ourselves is the most badass thing we can do and it's the #1 thing we need to do as we go through this crisis. Want to know exactly how to do this? Stay tuned. More to come.

Love,

Dr. Liz
